Windows Mobile 7 preview

Submitted by anang on Wed, 02/17/2010 - 20:33

The long wait is finally over, well almost. It is planned for release in late 2010. Windows Mobile 7 Series was originally intended to be released during 2009, but several delays prompted Microsoft to develop Windows Mobile 6.5 as an interim release.

Microsoft revealed the details of the Windows Mobile software during the Mobile World Congress in February 2010. The interface, known as "Metro", has been completely revised and is visually similar to the interface of the Zune HD. Microsoft has issued hardware requirements to manufacturers, with the specification requiring all Windows Mobile 7 Series devices to feature three buttons (Back button, Start button and Search button) and FM Radio capabilities.

Top 10 Best Flat file CMS

Submitted by anang on Sat, 10/10/2009 - 17:19

SimpleCMS:

CMSimple is a free content management system. It aims to be simple, small and fast. As it is written in PHP it runs on Linux/Apache servers, or on Win32 with Apache or IIS. CMSimple is licensed under the terms of the Affero General Public License.
CMSimple does not need a database as it writes page data directly to a HTML file on the web server. This simplifies installation and backups, and also makes CMSimple a low cost option on web hosts which charge extra for database access.

7 Things to Look forward to in Windows 7

Submitted by anang on Thu, 07/30/2009 - 11:18

If you follow computer operating system news, you might have noticed the conversations in some technical circles about Microsoft’s next operating system called Windows 7. This new Windows version is due out in the fourth quarter of 2009 and it includes some interesting and useful features.

It appears that Windows 7 is going to be a good one. At least that is the early consensus from those in the hallowed halls of IT. Windows 7 RC1 (Release Candidate 1) is being put to the test and here are seven (imagine that) things that are liked about this new operating system:

1) Windows 7 Action Center

No, this is not a news desk on your local TV station. This is a centralized location from which management of user security, troubleshooting, and recovery issues can be performed. All of these features were included in prior versions of Microsoft Windows, but you had to go to separate places to get to them. Now, this application brings them all together under one roof. Brought over and expanded from Windows
Vista, this is one improvement that is sure to please......

U.S. Military joins social networking sites

Submitted by anang on Mon, 06/01/2009 - 14:29

Last November, citing bandwidth and security reasons, the military launched TroopTube, a video-sharing social Web site designed for service members, as the alternative to YouTube. Apparently, it now has had a change of heart.

According to the Associated Press, the U.S. military in Afghanistan is launching a Facebook page, a YouTube site, and Twitter feeds as part of a new communication effort. Officials said this would help the military reach those who get their information online rather than via printed materials.

Python 3.0 Released

Submitted by anang on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 13:58

Python 3.0 (a.k.a. "Python 3000" or "Py3k") is a new version of the language that is incompatible with the 2.x line of releases. The language is mostly the same, but many details, especially how built-in objects like dictionaries and strings work, have changed considerably, and a lot of deprecated features have finally been removed. Also, the standard library has been reorganized in a few prominent places.

Vista SP2 beta due next week

Submitted by anang on Sat, 10/25/2008 - 02:50

The next update to Windows Vista will enter beta testing next week, bringing with it support for Blu-ray drives, among other enhancements.
In a blog posting on Friday, Microsoft confirmed that a beta version of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 will be released next week.

"Because we've adopted a single serviceability model, these improvements are integrated into a single service pack covering both Windows Vista (client) and Windows Server 2008 (server) versions," Windows executive Mike Nash said in a blog. "This should also minimize deployment and testing complexity for our customers."
The software maker said earlier this week that it was working on Vista SP2, but wouldn't go into detail. A support document posted this month, however, suggested a beta version was in the offing.

In addition to Blu-ray, Vista SP2 will add support for Bluetooth 2.1 as well as include Windows Search 4.0, the latest version of Microsoft's desktop search technology.
